Memory is a territory, carrying the humidity of the forest, the collision of bodies, the colours, and the music— but also the violence, the racial contradictions, and the weight of history that shapes Brazilianity. Yet, in my work, I reject reality: I react to landscapes without delivering them. The act of painting is more akin to an excavation— of place, belonging, and the self. I return to the sensorial excess of Brazil, not as an outsider, but from within.
